Having seen Johnny a year prior to these tracks initially being released I was exited by the prospect of hearing actual studio recordings of then still new songs In Cold Blood and Diary Of A Lover, together with part of a live set from ‘82. However my excitement was dampened when I actually listened to it. The Jimmy Miller production on the studio tracks is certainly not great. I also suspected that the mastering on the initial double ‘12 inch release I bought and still have (ROSE18 NR350) was a bit iffy and that it was cut way too loud. The '82 live set from Jonathan Swifts seemed slightly lackluster compared to the ones I’d seen the same year.
